In our lives, there are many things that seem inconsequential and worthless, while in fact, they are of a great value. Most of us, unfortunately, tend to underestimate our possessions and abilities, but later, if we are lucky, we realize their potential contribution to a much happier and more successful life.

I see those precious things as icebergs. They calmly pass by our lives, we appreciate them but not enough, because we assume that we see them entirely, while in fact only their tips are visible to us.

Look at the picture of the iceberg, imagine the part that’s above the water as one of the many things you own but don’t appreciate much, and then look at the part that’s under the water and ask yourself whether you see those things in the same way.

Another thing in common between icebergs and the many precious things in our lives that have potential and priceless values, is that they both vanish with time.

Beautiful Dysfunction !

September 26, 2006

Last summer of 2005, when my friend and I decided to go on a trip to Turkey, everybody warned us from the swindlers in Istanbul. We were advised not to talk to strangers, not to mention Kuwait as our homeland and not to go close to any of Istanbul’s crowded and dark places. In fact, we were 100% convinced of those advices that we agreed on taking them as rules. Ironically, we broke them on the second day that we arrived, and I still find that as a mystery.

We were walking in one of the nice streets in Istanbul when a little car accident occured. We turned to see what happened to find a tanned, tall and well-built man smiling at us. He said in an italian accent: “Ohh, don’t worry, it happens all the time here.” we instinctively smiled back and there was the beginning of our rules breaking adventure. We talked about the splendid panorama, topography and mixture of everything in the city. Later, he offered to give us a ride to the city’s main attraction; Takseem square. Unhesitantly, we jumped in his car and enjoyed the views while crossing Galata bridge to reach the modern part Istanbul, and leave the ancient one behind us. He took us right to the most touristic and crowded area in Istanbul, it was really fun to walk between the small shops and to have a delicious snack of fried breaded oysters. But that fun stopped and was replaced by anxiety when we suddenly found ourselves walking down stairs to a restaurant that seemed more like a CLUB. What followed, long story short: WE WERE RIPPED OFF ((The rest of the details are copyrighted, sorry:)  ))

It was bizarre that, in the way to all that, neither I nor my friend has remembered any of the advices. We went back to the hotel stunned by the dysfunction of our  that has led us to one of the best, most rewarding and most expensive experience in our live, and I mean it, it was really fun since it didn’t involve any gore!. We spent the whole next week enjoying the most extraordinarily amazing trip in our lives. Every thing we did was so fun, every meal we had was a gourment, and every place we visited seemed from another era.

Reality Shock!

September 19, 2006

Did it ever happen to you?! You had a dream and you wanted to make it true, and when you did, you felt cheated. You wanted something madly and when you got it, it’s not what you wished for.It happened to me when I got my first job just after graduation, I felt depressed right after the second week. Although I always wanted to work in where I’m working now, I got that feeling before the first month ended. Why? I just realized the answer.

Sometimes things inevitably interfere in our lives to tweak our decisions, that what happened to me when -while I was applying for my dream place right after graduation- another company kept calling me , insisted to interview me and later offered me a nice job with a fantastic salary. I went through the process(4 interviews) just for the fun of it, I wasn’t serious about it ‘coz I was determined to go for my dream place and guess what? I was in Sharm ElShekh enjoying my last trip before my career starts when both companies called me and told me that I was accepted in both places. Some of my friends agreed that I should go for my dream, while the majority endorsed to get the offer with the double salary my dream place offered, but for me, it didn’t make sense to me to give up my dream when I finally got it. I came back home, declined one offer and accepted the other, and wooops, it’s the reality shock I told you about.

Bottom line is, if that company had never called me thrice for interviews and later offered me that quality offer, I would have never had something to compare my dream place offer with any else one, I would have never felt that depression, and you know what ? I would have never knew that there’s more for me out there that I should cease. So this is how things work sometimes to make you wake up and realize that it’s just a dream.
