SuperEmployee

By filmmaker64

Before I put my feet on the first rung of the ladder of my career,  I always imagined that I’d be one of the most competent employees in the world, or at least, in my workplace. However, that turned out to be an illusion, just similar to the ones that some of us had when we were young, about the possibility of flying like superman when we grow up.

It’s been six months since I graduated and started working. My job was nice at the beginning, but soon it started to drag me into a typhon of responsibilities and challenges, and now it’s time to face that typhon with my skills and capabilities. Instead, my big, if not unforgivable mistakes are what I’ve been demonstrating since then. Almost everyweek, I was shocked by how unintelligent I can be. Although, by looking at my history -my transcript, CV, activities and people I spend time with- I and others find a promising and sharp person with various assets to brag about. I asked myself many times; why couldn’t I be what I though I’d be? that superemployee that would make his employers thank god everyday for guiding them to the right decision of hiring him.

Luckily, I didn’t care as much to know the reason as to learn from my mistakes. Especially that not all the mistakes that I made were a result of me being new, some of them happened because of my character drawbacks. Whenever I made a mistake, I learned about myself more than about work itself, it helped me to recognize my weaknesses and shortcomings and thereafter remarkably minimized them, and also realized my strengths and shored them up.

Unsuprisingly, many persons, including my managers and colleagues, told me that it’s more than normal to err since I’m new to the organization, I was even told that there were worse newcomers than me. Nevertheless, it’s a big deal for me because before working I thought I’d be flawless, just like thinking that I’d fly like superman when I grow up.

Aim for success, not perfection. Never give up your right to be wrong, because then you will lose the ability to learn new things and move forward with your life.
People forget how fast you did a job,but they remember how well you did it.
